Thinking for Health and Happiness
-- our bodies react to negative
thoughts as surely as if the situation were real. For example, we make
mountains of harmful coritsol in response to our emotional fears that we
are unloved. We know that too much cortisol will make us vulnerable to
such illnesses as heart disease - but how does it relate to weight?
Coritsol is intimately linked to fat - it orders the body to hold
onto fat and then amazingly, these fat cells go on to manufacture
more cortisol, which creates a more stressful, overly reactive,
emotional state and our thinking becomes even more frantic. On goes the
cycle. That thoughts create coritsol is just one of the reasons its so important to
learn how to control our minds to be healthy and thin. But How?
Doesn't my happiness depend on factors outside myself? If we have to depend on people and events
outside of ourselves, we will always be at the mercy of others, and
others are not always kind!! Instead, we can create a state of
goodness that lives in our cells - from the very root of our
experience of "I" - there can be an oasis, a place
of peace, that fills us with a love that needs no outside nourishment,
but rather, gives us a feeling of compassion and abundance to share with
others.
How can we generate good feelings? We begin with awareness: Do we choose to focus on the people and events that have hurt us or do we make the Herculean effort to change our internal dialogue and focus forward - on the things we hope to be and have in our lives. One way is to use the medicine of the mind by reading uplifting thoughts:
